Israel Quest : FAQs

Overview of the Israel Quest Program
Israel Quest is a teen Jewish identity project of The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington in partnership with the United Jewish Endowment Fund and over 50 local synagogues and regional youth organizations. Established in 1994, Israel Quest is based on the guiding principle that continuing Jewish education linked with an Israel experience will forge a strong Jewish identity in the hearts and minds of our youth.

Israel Quest is the framework that links the following:

  • Ongoing Jewish education provided by a sponsoring congregational school or an approved Jewish youth group
  • Required participation in activities that enhance Jewish identity
  • An Israel experience (of 4-8 weeks in length) of the participant's choosing (from an approved list of 40 trips) during 10th, 11th or 12th grades or summers thereafter
  • A reentry program for Israel experience alumni that reconnects them to the local Jewish community
  • Deadline for Israel Quest registration is required by the end of 8th grade

By signing up as an Israel Quest member and agreeing to comply with the above-listed criteria, teens will receive a guaranteed minimum subsidy of $750 from Federation, which could increase by $250 if a match of $250 is offered by the sponsoring organization.
